Abstract

Per les seves missions i competències, el Comitè de salvació pública és un dels comitès més coneguts de tots els que hi hagué sota la Convenció nacional (1792-1795) i sota les diferents Assemblees parlamentàries (1789-1795). Ara bé, coneixem els seus antecessors? Aquells comitès que a semblança seva van treballar per a mantenir l’ordre i la tranquil·litat pública? La resposta és evidentment negativa. No només no els coneixem massa, sinó que, el seu primer antecedent, el Comitè de raports, establert el mes de juliol de 1789, amb qui comparteix moltes semblances, ha passat desaparecebut fins fa ben poc. L’objectiu d’aquest article no és altre que presentar-lo.

By virtue of its missions and responsibilities, the Committee of Public Safety is one of the best known of the many committees that sat under the National Convention (1792-1795) and under successive Parliaments (1789-1795). But how much do we know about its antecedents? About those committees that also worked to maintain public order and tranquillity? The answer, clearly, is that we know very little. Not only we know next to nothing about these committees, but until recently we have been entirely ignorant of the first of them, the Comité des rapports, established in July 1789, with which the Committee of Public Safety has many similarities. The aim of this paper is simply to present it.
